Autograph & Letter Album Belonging to E. B. Washburne

A mid-1800s leather autographs and letter album which belonged to E. B. Washburne, a prominent attorney and later a U.S. congressman from Illinois before and during the American Civil War. He also served as a political advisor to Abraham Lincoln and Ulysses S. Grant and ambassador to France (1869-1877). Description/Condition: The album is in a green gilded leather with beautiful marbled interior. The pages are thick (majority of them blank). Minor wear and scuffs can be seen to leather and inside marbled paper. The ephemera inside has since been cut or pulled out (bummer) yet a folded photo of a street in Paris was missed (likely from his days as a U.S. Ambassador to France). A phenomenal piece of history. Dimensions: 13.5” x 11.5” x 3.5”
